New Product Development Manager

Cronos Group is seeking a New Product Development Manager. This role reports to the Head of Marketing, but works closely with cross-functional partners including operations, design, procurement, quality assurance, and R&D. This role is responsible for the development of new cannabis products that can be produced in a large-scale manufacturing environment and experience in process engineering for consumer-packaged goods is required.

This position is based out of Toronto, ON.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Able to assess market size of potential new categories leveraging a three C and four P analysis
  • Able to develop new products that align with business, consumer, regulatory and cost guidelines while working with R&D
  • Managing projects and the commercialization process from inception through launch, securing new vendors, equipment, and packaging
  • Helping create a strategic 2-year innovation pipeline including buy or build decisions
  • Able to perform market segmentations and facilitate new category/IP development
  • Able to communicate trends and consumer insights while assessing the competitive landscape both domestically and internationally
  • Responsible for P&L development and pricing suggestions establishing payback periods based on CapEx investments
  • Partnering with sales to develop customer sell-in presentations and new marketing materials for new category launches
  • Collaborating with cross functional teams (R&D, Supply Chain, Finance, QA, Operations, Design, etc.) to ensure strong business plans and execution
  • Helping manage an innovation budget to ensure efficient allocations
  • Working through an activation launch plan with agency partners
  • Establishing new manufacturing processes with operations
  • Laying out process flows diagrams and space allocations for manufacturing
  • Determining ideal throughput, capacity constraints, and bottlenecks
  • Working with procurement to manage new inventory levels while establishing new vendors
  • Creating launch plan revenue projections and on-going forecasting for new product categories
  • Required to develop, recommend and implement efficiency improvements to production processes, methods and controls
  • Integrating Lean Six Sigma and a continuous improvement mindset for all projects
  • Developing standard operating procedures in a regulatory compliant environment

 

WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • An engineering background/engineering degree is required
  • Consumer packaged goods experience is strongly preferred
  • Experience managing cross-functional teams
  • Prior experience in product development
  • Experience with beverage and/or food manufacturing is a plus
  • A minimum of 3-5 years prior relevant experience (if Undergrad degree only, technical school preferred) OR at least 1-2 years of prior experience (if Advanced degree) is preferred
  • Experience with project management, safety systems, construction, process & operational hazard assessment, and process automation

  • Strong computer skills to include: Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of Computer Aided Design (CAD) technology
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude
  • Proficient in understanding/interpreting financials and experience in budgeting
